Tuesdays With Matthew has raised $14,759.00 for Covid-related outreach for Meals On Wheels America.
Tuesdays With Matthew is a volunteer program for Senior Citizens where SCENE-iors recreate famous scenes from iconic movies. I started volunteering at the center in January 2012, teaching the TWM program every single week, and it has since positively transformed me on every single level. After years of the group just reading scripts, I wondered what would happen if I surprised the SCENE-iors and we made our own movies. I got caught up in what an entertaining concept the movies could be, how funny they could be, and how great it would be for me making them. Then a blessing happened that would forever change me from self to service.
When I was editing one of our movies, a SCENE-ior said that participating in the making of the movie made him "forget all of his pain". I had known him for almost ten years, and had no idea these silly movies could help him forget any pain he had. That statement shook me, and turned out to be the greatest thing that could have ever happen to me. It forced me to set a higher intention for myself and my work: Serve with purpose and use Tuesdays with Matthew to spread joy and help make others forget their pain. As a result, I started doing SCENE-ior road trips to make SCENE-iors I have never met feel like movie stars, and use the program to raise money for Meals On Wheels America. Armed with costumes, wigs, and a green screen, TWM transports the SCENE-iors from their center to places they never thought possible.
Tuesdays With Matthew has since raised thousands of dollars for MOW, and has inspired thousands in additional contributions. To date, TWM has generated over 3,000 meals for homebound Seniors, with many more to go. Tuesdays With Matthew has been featured in The New York Times, and CBS This Morning to name a few.

It’s impossible to describe the feeling of our TWM movie day “Premiere’s”, but the energy in the room skates on a completely different level of happiness that I have never experienced. To produce a TWM SCENE-ior Road Trip takes an unbelievable amount of time and I am always nervous that after driving for five hours that none of the residents will want to put on a movie with me. I feel like a High School student waiting to see if anyone will show up to their party. Spoiler alert - the SCENE-iors always show up, and within the first ten minutes of me teaching my class it is clear that I have new friends for life. That night and the following day we spend about 12 hours editing the film, and the next morning I hit the local grocery store before returning to the center to premiere the film. I pick up a cake, and a twelve pack of Ensure to put in champagne glasses to toast our movie stars. The entire community shows up to see the film, and I am always overwhelmed when relatives attend to cheer on their Mothers, Fathers, Siblings or Grandparents. It is the most amazing thing to watch them - watch their loved ones- on the big screen having the time of their lives.
“I was sick recently and missed a few weeks, and Matthew called me to check on me...It made me feel like I was important enough for someone to worry about.”
